Amsterdam, dec.12th 2024–In an interview at the ITB Berlin 2024, Director of Tourism,
Evan Tillett spoke about the benefits of the Blue Bonds, the importance of future direct air connectivity between Belize and Europe, and the revised National Sustainable Tourism Masterplan, the roadmap for Belize to become a benchmark for sustainability in the world.
And while BTB’s focus is mostly on the overnight sector – which accounts for the supermajority of the tourism sector’s earnings, Tillett told us today that they are also developing new plans to increase cruise numbers.
” We are still with numbers in need of an update, I think there’s a number of factors for that and for instance you have bigger ships now coming on stream and belize still has a port situation so i think that we need to finalize that whole process in getting a docking facility then you will see real growth in the cruise tourism sector. But it’s important that it has to be done in a sustainable manner. Every single thing we do at the BTB and the ministry of tourism is done sustainably. In fact we are just in the process of finalizing the update to our national sustainable tourism master plan.“
Director Tillett also expounded on the events leading to the upcoming World Travel Sustainability and Hospitality Awards to be hosted in our jewel in September.
